Just a quick post…

Hi 🙂

Just a quick post, nothing technical, LiveClay is starting to look like
UnlimitedClay…. I’m dealing with some time issues I can’t avoid here, my
University job is starting to overwhelm me and left me little free time,
but once again, I will have to deal with this new challenge.
Perhaps I will have to pay the price in sleeping hours… I’ve known
very important persons that manage to sleep 4-5 hours a day.

Cheers

Sleeping less isn’t a good option in the long term. I strongly advise you against it. I am not a doctor, but I went through it some years ago — nine months sleeping less than 5 hours a night — lost my job, my car and many illusions.

Not sleeping enough is bad for your physical and mental shape. For instance, I read somewhere that if you drive a car and you have slept less that 5 years, it is as dangerous as having .5 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Lack of sleep makes a person less efficient and irritable. The same work takes longer to do. Memory and focus deteriorate. Discriminating what is important, and what is not, becomes almost impossible in some cases. It can even make a person insomniac, so recovering is very difficult. After 7 or 8 months a sleep-deprived individual is virtually insane (which is, dangerous for himself or the others).

As I am a Blender User, I know that your skills help the community a lot. But I also think you are taking the problem the wrong way around. Working too much and not sleeping enough won’t make you an important person. (By the way, what is an important person ?). If you do it too long, it can make you a sick person, and nobody wants that.

If you really have to sleep less, do it for a short period and prepare for longer nights, shortly after. Or schedule hours of rest during the day. For instance, Bonaparte was sleeping 3 hours a night, but he took several short naps during the day. I’m not sure everybody can do that…

  2. I will agree with Piscator. Don’t try and fix your problem on 4-5 hours of sleep. If you have a stumbling block, often sleep can help you find solutions that you would never think of (hence the saying “Sleep on it”).

  3. Yeah, bud–take it easy for a while. You’ve done a lot for us already. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that we’re in no rush, and definitely don’t want your personal life to suffer just from trying to do too many things at once. If you’ve got school and a job to take care of, then just let Blender be dead last on your list, and get back to it later. Also, I used to stay up about 20 hours a day for a long while, until I started seeing faint running rats that weren’t really there in my room. Do it long enough and it’s not good for the mind, and the body has a rather hard time readjusting to normal. Blender development is free, for fun, and can wait–your health and personal life comes first. We care about ya, man!

  4. No – not to cut sleep time.

there are pills which help ( like Modafinil one of so called ‘smart drugs’ – many in academia actually use them, as studies say) to have no sleep, so technically it is possible to realise without health effects.

But currently you do not have access to these pills ( and I cannot say if it is legal or not – just have no idea of cuban law, in russia these pills are legal ( though some are not ) ) – and thus – experiments with sleep time – is worst you can do.

i wanted to ask the same thing but did not want to seem impatient
if such a build where released do you think my old laptop could run it or
would i need a fancy new computer . my laptop could not run sculptris (i had to borrow)
i noticed that some builds on graphicall require sandy bridges to work correctly.
i don’t know if raul will open branch he might sleep on it 🙂

    i don’t think it’s inpatient. I think it’s fair.
After all, the last time we tried UC was ~ a year ago…
In an extreme case – if something happens to the coder, someone else could take it from there… But currently the source is not shared so all work would go down the drain…
Even Bishop released his skin modifier for people to try out at a really early stage. And people are loving it.

    Best wishes.

Thanks everyone for the advice … yes, I know is not a good idea, is just that I’m feeling bad for no giving you updates at my usual rate, but don’t worry, I will do my best.

    @FreeMind
I will release UnlimitedClay sooner than you expect, I’m progressing fast in LiveClay and once I have both leveraged I will have some time to keep on UnlimitedClay.

    Kind regards

    Hi, Raul!
Please, don’t cut your sleeping time. It’s not that I don’t want you to progress – it will not help you generally!
On the previous job I did this and I become angry and spiky (especially at home). My attention at work was bad too. So you’ll not benefit from this anything than headaches and possibly social problems.
Every artist wants more free time but it’s not possible without drugs (that I highly DO NOT recommend) and your brain’s health (not only the brain.. it’s more complicated theme).
Sleep 8 hours. At least 6 – but not every day and not more than 2 days on week. Good sleeping gives more qualitative results and more fresh ideas.

So I wish you to be the best but not with the price of your health and mood.

Somebody told that N.Bishop’s Skin Modifier can be used to “skin” SPH fluids. Is it possible? If you know what I mean.
“Currently, the code mainly handles the topology generation with some extensions of my own to nicely handle almost arbitrary topology with loops.”

Tom Cruise said he rarely sleeps, producing, starring, maintain a movie studio. It probably explains why he starts to jump on couches.

Developer Nicholas Bishop is currently working on integrating a quad-dominant remeshing method called dual-contouring into blender
have you tried it out with uc. converts ugly triangles into quads.

    Hey man,

I love your work and can’t wait it to make into first builds of 3dcoat. I sent you a small contribution by PayPal. I am willing to support your work more, if you maybe can send me a notice if you receive the funds in a couple of days.

    Thanks,
    Vlad
