RemoveIntersections command

Quick shape constructed using RemoveIntersections command

Sometimes you could not avoid a nasty self intersection happens into your model, and worse, you don’t realize that until you are in a pretty advanced state so going undo is not an option and the mess is very deep into the volume of the model… well, for those cases is very suited a remove self intersections command, it can be considered a post-process tool but it can provide the foundation to other tools too. It still have some bugs that I will be solved before making public 🙂

Cheers.

  1. Hey, it seems quite a useful command.
Just to be totally sure, to me the most important thing anyway, or at least what I consider to be the basic for this kind of softwares, is the brush engine.
I mean, as you are developing an incredible tool, I would focus ONLY on the brush engine, and in the way every brush feels to the artist.
This is why I think ZBrush is unsurpassed, as the feeling of the brushes is much better than mudbox, and I am sorry to say that 3DCoat isn’t even comparable.
I remind that Andrew did the same mistake, and now 3DCoat is like a frankenstein monster, with a lot of new tools and new commands not well streamlined (THAT IS IMPORTANT!!!).

As Brad Peebler said one time, It is “easy” to add a new feature (please don’t take it literally), but thinking about its usability, making it perfect into a existing pipeline, and with the ability to mix it with other tools… that requires a lot of time, efforts and planning above all.

3DC should be a sculpting/texturing software, so focus on the brushes 😉

Yes, I agree with you, the Brush Engine is in our priority list 😉

  3. Agreed. I am pretty happy with the feature list that 3DC offers. Now if it could be made polished and bulletproof (no exploding LC meshes) and a good customizable brush engine – that would allow artists to test it, polish and tweak-feature request it to take the whole thing on par with ZBrush/mudbox brushes. Then it will become attractive for the industry and ‘serious’ artists. That, in turn, will stimulate sculpts and models creation, more polish, better gallery -> more new artist will get attracted to the software, iterate…

Good job and best luck with the ‘last 10%’ 😉

  5. I like the RemoveIntersections command.

Is it possible to remove intersections by using a brush? (Realtime Intersection Removing)
Reason: Sometimes it is interesting to keep areas intersected and others not.

    Best wishes

  6. Merge&Repel feature on any LC brush does help on that, they perform a good job avoiding/removing self intersections locally, though for real time on dense meshes are not very usable…I’m sure we will develop a way to make a good use in real time of this feature 🙂
